A Concrete Brothers driveway in Canterbury

Our story

Our Story

How Concrete Brothers came to be — and yes, we'll admit we're not actually brothers.

How it started

A family business — even if we don’t share a mum.

We'll be honest — we're not actually brothers. Different mothers, different fathers, and while we're both Kiwis (and probably share a distant relative somewhere), we're brothers in name only. What we did build is a business that feels like family — for the team, and for everyone we work for.

Concrete Brothers is run by the two of us, Ben and Louis — both Canterbury born and raised, both concreting since the mid-2000s, when we met starting out in the trade. We worked together for five years, flatted together for a stretch, and always talked about running our own company one day — before Ben took off to Bondi for a few years.

It came together about 18 months after the Canterbury earthquakes, when Louis finally lured Ben home. The method was simple: take him to buy a new tipper, add some convincing chat about all the new-build work going begging while everyone else chased earthquake repairs — and Ben was as sold as what became our first truck.

We started small: one truck, some hurriedly-embroidered shirts, and a scramble to round up the gear. In 2012 we landed our first contract together — 50 new driveways in Wigram — and never looked back.

Since then we've grown our fleet, our team and our skills into a concreting business we're proud to call our own — still run like a family one, still treating your job like it's the only one that matters.

So no, we're not actual family. But we promise we'll make you feel like it.

What we’re about
“Every job we do is just as important as if we were doing it for our mum.”

Who we are

Meet the brothers.

Concrete Brothers is run by the two of us — both born and raised in Canterbury, and both concreting since the mid-2000s.

Co-founder

Ben

Canterbury born and raised, Ben started out in concrete in the mid-2000s alongside Louis. He spent a few years laying it in Bondi before a new tipper — and a good chat about the local market — tempted him home to start the company.

Co-founder

Louis

Also Canterbury raised and a concreter since the mid-2000s, Louis is the one who bought that first truck, spotted the gap in Christchurch's new developments, and enticed Ben back from the beach to get Concrete Brothers off the ground.

In the community

Proud to back Canterbury Rugby.

We didn't build Concrete Brothers on our own — Canterbury did that with us. So when we get the chance to put something back into the place that backs us, we take it.

We're proud sponsors of Canterbury Rugby, getting in behind the grassroots game so many of our team, mates and families grew up playing. Here's a short clip the crew put together.
