Te Ana Marina

Te Ana Marina reshaped Lyttelton's waterfront, and the concrete is what you walk on across the whole precinct. We laid the hard surfaces that tie it together — a broad promenade along the water's edge, and the plazas and pathways that link it back through the precinct — all finished to the standard a public space gets used and judged by.

The promenade is the hero. Large-format panels of two-tone exposed aggregate run the length of the marina edge, washed back to reveal the stone for grip and a hard-wearing finish that stands up to weather, salt and constant foot traffic. Contrasting bands and a darker aggregate break the expanse into a considered pattern rather than a flat slab.

Behind the water's edge, patterned paving and pedestrian links carry the same detailing through to the plazas and building surrounds, with kerbs, edging and neat surrounds cast around the reclaimed-timber seating. Everything set out to levels and falls so the whole precinct drains cleanly and reads as one job.

It's the kind of large-scale, high-visibility work that shows what the team can do well beyond a driveway — commercial concrete and paving, poured to programme and finished to last, on one of Canterbury's most-used public waterfronts.
